Promethian Spark, custom leprosy shoes, sarees ...

After another lunch at the school of what? ... rice and curry, we had a presentation from the dance master Susie who is a dancer, ballerina, and teaches 5 hours of dance classes to students every day. She is a Byu student who had never been out of the USA before this trip and is spending 6 months in India teaching dance. Because she is on a work visa, she can live at the school. She told us about the program she is working at the school through which is a US. Non profit that is in several countries called Promethian Spark. Prometheus was the Greek character who gave fire to humans so they could elevate themselves. It was started by a broadway dancer Sean Perry, also a BYU graduate who taught dance in Peruto teach life skills - success, discipline, goal setting, tenacity, spirituality, responsibility, confidence and respect through dance.  He saw some kids begging in Peru and told them he would come back the next day and teach them to dance for of money instead of begging. He next day he had 100 kids ready to learn. From those kids, some went on to college from the life skills they learned through dance.  This program has been at the Rising Star school for 7 years. It is also in Peru, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Very inspirational. Susie is getting a troop ready to perform for a function in New Delhi.  She is twenty years old and is doing a great job!  She works those kids hard. She teaches the kids in the covered open air cafeteria.  She was telling us how she has to sweep poisonous millipedes out all the time and impresses the boys by picking up giant bugs to clear the dance floor.

We visited a man who makes special custom shoes for people with leprosy and a small school farm with bees that grows bananas and tomatoes for the school.

Next on the program was saree wrapping where we learned how to wrap a saree.

Another UKG playtime where we go to the UKG or upper kindergarten 's recess and play with them. They do not have a lower kindergarten at the school.

Each evening we cut up a fruit salad and then gather for dinner on the covered open air rooftop where we watch the sunset with the volunteers and the volunteer planners and the dance master. We eat curry and rice, a different vegetarian curry every meal and cooked vegetables and boiled eggs for protein. The group goes around and tells something that was the best and the worst of the day. They call it highs and lows. It is a way of sharing your experiences.
